Since 2010, WAH has developed a close and caring relationship with Kampong Chhnang Government Orphanage. Over the years the orphanage has had between 40-70 children at various times; ages range from 2 years to 21 years. Most children are healthy, but a few have medical problems. One boy has been crippled all his life and uses a wheel chair. One young girl, Nanh, suffered a snake bite in the jungle in NE Cambodia and lost her leg. Her parents disowned her, and she ended up at the orphanage. She now has a new leg, much more beautiful than the old government issued leg.

In 2010 WAH installed a clean water system by the kitchen for the kids, and 5 years later built a bicycle driven water system by the basket ball court at the front of the orphanage.

About six years ago WAH made an awareness video of the foundation, and the actors and actresses came from the orphanage. KKH and Mount Alvernia have been very kind to help the children, visiting them and bringing note books, pens, games, books, and some computer tablets.

One day in 2017 we were at the orphanage when we saw that two of the girls, Ly Teynoes and Sann Kesey were upset. They had passed their exams for entry to University in Phnom Penh, to study banking, and architecture. They did not have the funds to go. Immediately WAH agreed to sponsor both girls. They are doing so well. Both girls take English and Mandarin class after school every day. Below more information on Ly and Sann.

SANN KESEY: Life could not be any harder for Sann (pictured on right in photo below), with no other option but to dig for insects for food when her parents passed away. Hunger & extreme poverty, however, did not break her spirit. When paths crossed with WAH, Sann was in an orphanage and was feeling hopeless about her future prospects. Sann had worked hard to earn a place at Phnom Penh University, but was unable to pay the tuition fees. WAH’s scholarship proved to be a life changing - Sann is now one of the top students majoring in architecture. With access to quality education, Sann’s future is now very much in her own hands.

LY TEYNOES: Ly’s future ambitions have changed beyond recognition since she received the scholarship and started the 4 year dedicated course (pictured on left in photo below). The scholarship lets her plan for big ambitious dreams and meaningful contribution to the local economy, instead of a hard manual life in the fields like most young women in her village.

In 2020 Mount Alvernia Hospital committed to generously upgrade sanitation and wash room areas for the children.

We continue to try and help make the lives of the children happier. We will support every child at the orphanage who wants to broaden their education after leaving school.
